Mix bleach with vinegar (or other cleaners) for a “stronger” clean
The hack
Combine bleach with vinegar, ammonia or another bathroom cleaner to make a super-strength cleaner or “toilet bomb.”
Where it's popular: CleanHQ: “mixing products” among the #CleanTok hacks tested (verdict: FAIL, unsafe)
Scout's verdict
Bleach plus an acid (vinegar, many toilet-bowl and some glass cleaners) releases chlorine gas. Bleach plus ammonia makes chloramine gas. Both injure eyes, throat and lungs, and high exposures can kill. Mixing doesn’t clean better.
Evidence: Washington State Dept. of Health · Poison Control (poison.org) · CDC: cleaning with bleach
Bottom line: Hard skip. One product at a time, rinse between, open a window.
⚠️ Safety
NEVER mix bleach with vinegar, ammonia, toilet-bowl cleaner or any other cleaner. Ventilate. If it happens, leave the room, get fresh air, and call Poison Control at 1-800-222-1222.
